How to Handle a Project

A project must be handled differently than a routine process, especially when you set out to do something that’s unfamiliar, complicated, and requires the involvement of other people.

If you approach the project as merely another thing to do today, you’re in danger of failing because you’re apt to run into unknown territory. You may think that as an experienced problem-solver, you can invent fixes, but this approach will not work. The accumulated effect of ad-hoc solutions – plus the need to go back and fix the ones that don’t work, plus the shortfalls from unexpected side effects – pretty much guarantee that your outcome won’t be satisfactory.

A project must be handled differently than a routine process. That’s why it makes sense to first determine if you’re dealing with a project. When one or more of the distinguishing characteristics of a project are present, you have to account for them – or pay a price.

In this webinar, Jim Milliken will explain the differences between a routine process and a project, and he’ll enlighten us on the steps required to handle a project.
