When Red Flags Arise :
Addressing Ethical / Moral Issues
Encountered in Our Consulting

A participatory session that explores how we recognize and respond to ethics challenges in the consulting realm.

Examples and case studies are requested from ACE members or attendees. Email Arthur or call 207.615.5722 to share a story from your own practice to be presented by Arthur, with or without your name.

When what appear to be ethical / moral “red flags” arise, how do we respond?  Can we quietly proceed?  Do we tell the client what seemed to be wrong, and then walk away?  Is it possible and appropriate to push for change?

Arthur Fink will guide us through a series of exercises to help develop our ethical / moral agility, in a complex world where something that may seem problematic to one of us may feel fine to another.  These all draw upon case studies from his decades of consulting or your submitted case studies.

Our Speaker:

ACE member Arthur Fink is known as a consultant on strategy, innovation, creativity, and usability, as a documentary photographer of dance and other subjects, and as a person who asks insightful and clarifying questions.

Arthur holds a graduate degree from Harvard in computer science and artificial intelligence, and spent years as a consultant within General Electric and other firms.  Independently he designed custom application software for users in Europe, Asia, and the United States.  His focus has always been on the user, maximizing productivity and work quality through appropriate technology.

Between his time at Harvard and in his IT work, Arthur was with the American Friends Service Committee (Quakers) as a social activist, publicist, radio show host, and frequent speaker and workshop leader.   While working in technology, Arthur founded the Center for Appropriate Computing, leading workshops with titles like, "Computer Assertiveness Training" and "On turning the computer off."

Arthur is increasingly being called upon as a public speaker, as a mentor to other presenters, and as a guide to help craft programs that engage audiences and invite participation.

With a broad social consciousness and activist background, Arthur has carefully noted the moral and ethical dilemmas that have arisen throughout his work life – dilemmas that will provide much of the data for this interactive session.
