Creativity, Innovation and Today’s Professionals  in the workplace

Creativity is vital to innovation and success in any field – science, technology, the arts, education or business.  Therefore it is vitally important to manage today’s workforce of creative professionals in ways that foster creativity, collaboration, and learning, rather than constraining them within more traditional approaches to management.  Changing generational attitudes and expectations, along with the need to keep organizations agile and a growing recognition of the importance of creativity, are reshaping workplace culture.

Our speaker is:

Edison T. Liu, M.D., President of Jackson Labs

Dr. Liu is the President and CEO of The Jackson Laboratory. Previously, he was the founding executive director of the Genome Institute of Singapore (2001-2011), and has been the President of the Human Genome Organization (HUGO) from 2007-2013. Before 2001, Dr. Liu held leadership positions as the Scientific Director of the National Cancer Institute's Division of Clinic Sciences (1996-2001), the director of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center's Specialized Program of Research Excellence in Breast Cancer, the director of the Laboratory of Molecular Epidemiology at UNC's School of Public Health, chief of medical genetics, and chair of the Correlative Science Committee of the national cooperative clinical trials group, CALGB. Dr.

Liu is an international expert in cancer biology, genomics, human genetics, molecular epidemiology, and translational medicine. He served as Chairman of the Board of Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority from 2007-2012 which is the Drug Regulatory Agency for the nation.  He is also the recipient of the President’s Medal of Singapore for his work to help resolve the SAR’s crisis in Singapore. 

Dr. Liu’s current scientific research is focused on the functional genomics of human cancers, particularly breast cancer, uncovering new oncogenes, and deciphering the dynamics of gene regulation on a genomic scale that modulate cancer biology. He has authored over 300 scientific papers and reviews, and co-authored two books.

Mapping our Sources of Creativity
and Inspiration

 

"Creativity", "Inspiration", "Curiosity", "Innovation"... these terms are peppered now around our working cultures as if simply bringing them into the vernacular will produce the spectacular results we want. But the seeds of innovation need the right elements in place in order to grow and thrive. As consultants, it is vital and highly rewarding to know more about how to access our individual creative triggers, and how to productively engage the unfamiliar - wherever we may find it.   In a busy pressured professional life, how can we bring more creative intentionality into our work experience?  This roundtable will further explore some principals in Dr. Liu’s fascinating presentation, and provide some “quality time” to reconnect with our own creativity!

Specialty: Experiential trainings for business and educational settings for more fully realized employee potential, improved company morale, and increased productivity. Kym is also the creator of ShiftPOV, a unique group facilitation tool currently in product trials and recently accepted into the 2015 Top Gun entrepreneurial development program. Kym was Partner and Curriculum Developer for LegacyMD, an interactive behavioral intensive training program for highly skilled physicians exhibiting problematic communication patterns.  Kym facilitates a series of ongoing trainings with the University of New Hampshire focused on behavior change in search committees, and has joined the Standardized Patient program at Maine Medical Center, a collaborative training effort with Tufts University, helping to train medical residents in more effective patient communications.
